November is here! The PVCA has had a great time at the last meeting with education on the table. We had 4 Culinary Colleges present, each offering different possibilities within the culinary field. Some offering Bachelor’s Degrees while others certificates. Some offering lower tuition with the ability to transfer and save money, others offering study in Italy. I (and I believe everyone) found the discussion very interesting and insightful. The biggest benefit is what I heard from one of the culinary high school instructors (of which representatives from 6 culinary high schools were present) told me. The students on the way home were extremely excited. They really were interested in continuing their careers and were excited to try to compete in our competition in January! I really believe that this is where our chapter is heading. We are working to help the culinary students advance their careers and understanding of the field. I believe that this should be a focus (but not the sole focus) of our chapter.
We do need to also keep learning ourselves as a senior chapter. If we don’t continue to see and learn new things, the spark we carry and give to the Jr. Chapters will go out. To this end, our next meeting will be on November 19th at 5:30 PM at Mulino’s. The topic will be wines! Yes, tasting is involved and we may even have a blind tasting of some wines. I think people will have a great surprise by this.
Our speaker and Wine Master will be Michael Ferry from Martignetti Liquors. He has over 20 years in the wine business and is the area salesman for on premise sales. He plans on talking about varietal wines from different regions. He will discuss how they react to food. This will help with paring the wines with the menu. This should be a great meeting. If you plan on attending, please e-mail Tony at Tonymulino@aol.com I hope to have as good a turnout as our last meeting. We ended with over 40 people! It was great to see a full house. See you on the 19th. Good Cooking!
